I purchased one of the first 2011 models in July 2011. I am VERY satisfied with the car in general including the fuel economy. I recently made a 1,000 mile trip driving 68 mph and averaged 40.2 mpg. Around town I average 37 to 38 mpg. I drive to maximize the fuel economy by accelerating mildly from stops. The only negative is the seat comfort. The seats are hard and the passenger seat sits too low. Seat comfort is very important; so important that Hyundai must improve before I will consider another one. The 2012 models have a lifetime warranty on the drive-train; whereas, the 2011 models have a 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty. Hyundai should retroactively upgrade 2011s.

Have almost 2,000 miles on my base Sonata Hybrid and I am impressed with the vehicle. High build quality and great gas mileage. Recent road trip returned 41+ mpg.

  • Fun Car.... Already check engine light - 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid
    By -

My wife and I love this car... Super fun to drive. The mileage the computer was reporting was about 36 average at best. Not bad. After a month and a half the check engine light came on. No problem... My wife took it in and the dealer said they fixed four recalls. (she didnt get a work order from the dealer with the details, a little strange) Now the car averaged 41.5 MPG. I was a little disappointed with the mileage, but that seems to be taken care of. Over all, we love our purchase. Hopefully we dont have a reoccurring check engine light problem. Thats precisely why I leased a hybrid. Wait until the technology has become the norm in the market.

  • Just bought a certified used hybrid - 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

I just bought a lease return 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. I prefer cloth so I was glad to find this a basic package car. I love it. Averaging 33 mpg where as my Jetta got 20 in town. Such a quiet car and have had it up to 72 mph on the interstate in electric mode. So far, it rocks!

  • The first Service corrected issues with shifting - 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid
    By -

I got my Sonata hybrid in May and was very happy with it. The hesitancy in shifting between electric and gas motor at low speeds did not bother me. I did not appreciate any difficulty with the brakes, which worked well in a couple of emergensy stopping situationa. My mileage was in the 40+ mpG range. I had the first service about a month ago, Hyundai updated the computer hardware and software for free. After the service there was absolutely no hesitancy in shifitng and the MPG increases to 43-48 MPG. I remain very satisfied with this car and feel that it has gotten better.

  • Impressive in all respects other than highway mileage - 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

I have one of the first base sonata hybrids sold in central new jersey and still on my first tank of gas with over 600 miles on the car. For $5000K more, I figured I could get my own GPS and Ive no use for leather seats (the cloth ones are better looking and theres some cow out there ecstatic that its still munching grass) or dual moonroofs (I"m 6 2", so I would rather have more headroom, thanks). Ive owned an Insight and Prius and I would never know I was driving a Hybrid--there is no indication in drive feel whatsoever and the body style certainly doesnt scream hybrid (but the nameplate and the head/tail light treatments definitely let others in the know figure it out).

  • 2011 Sonata Hybrid after 7 months - 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Weve owned this car for seven months now. Im surprised at some of the negative reviews. My wife and I love this vehicle. We have been been stopped and questioned about the car. Everyone thinks it looks really cool. But that is not all. We have maintained 33-35mpg in local driving...and 35-42mpg on the highway. If you are going up hills, the gas mileage is less. If you have a heavy foot it will be less. However, it is not hard to increase the mileage with some smart driving. I have had the car go into the electric mode for several minutes at 70mph.

  • Fabulous automobile! - 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

I have now owned my Sonata Hybrid for just over six months. Like most of the early adopters of this automobile I had the check engine light issues until Hyundai figured out what was happening. Kudos to Hyundai for working diligently to solve the issue and provide us a $50 gift card as compensation for our trouble. Meanwhile, Ive enjoyed a mid-sized luxury car ride with penny pinching average fuel economy of 38 mpg over 16,238 miles! Within the first few miles of driving I sense a little hesitation in the transmission but after a few minutes its fine. I get lots of questions about my Sonata Hybrid and many compliments on the styling. I would not hesitate to purchase another Hyundai!

  • Best Family Hybrid Sedan - 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid
    By -

My family has 2 Sonata hybrid sedans because they are safe and fun to drive, get good fuel economy, handle well including braking and transition from EV to gas motor engaged. The car has excellent power when it is needed because the electric motor can supplement the gas engine. The Sonata hybrid has the most interior room of any hybrid sedan that cost less than $40,000. I read the negative reviews from some and do not agree with them. The cars equipment, such as the excellent Bluetooth hands free phone use, all work well. The cars ride is very smooth and quiet. In contrast to comment - the electric engine operates only at low speed, I found that the car will go into EV mode at 60+mph

I dont drive it as much as i would like but the wife loves it.Fuel milage is what we expected. Was recalled once for three repairs, all went well even recieved a $50 gift card from Hyundai for our troubles.Have recieved many compliments also was offered trades with other motorists cars. Car runs great .It only has 4000 miles on it so far but the only issue is the fuel gauge it is not accurate it never read a full tank since we owned it.We put $20 in it and it goes up a few lines, shut it off turn it back on and it goes up another line but otherwise a great car
